Magni the tugboat

Magni was built in 1955, the first steel vessel constructed in Iceland. It has a displacement of 184 tons, a length of 28 m and a beam of 8 m. The main engine was manufactured by Deutz and produces 1000 horsepower. In addition, there are two generators.
Hjálmar R. Bárðarson designed the boat, which was built by Stálsmiðjan in Reykjavík. Magni was in continuous use as Reykjavík Harbour’s main tug and pilot boat from 1955 until 1987. Moreover, it was used in safety, rescue and support operations in Faxaflói Bay, and to break pack ice outside Reykjavík Harbour as it was constructed as an icebreaker.
Magni became a part of the museum in 2008.
