Freyja the ship´s dog

Vikin - Sjominjasafnid

Freyja was an Icelandic sheepdog and lived onboard Ódinn from 1961-1968.  There are many stories of Freyja and she contributed a lot to the crew’s live onboard the vessel. Freyja was named after Freyja the goddess of fertility in the Norse mythology.
Freyja had puppies’ three times and in all raised 15 puppies. She was a very good mother and took good care of her puppies. All the puppies were given away and one of them even went to the president at Bessastadir.

Freyja could be really loud if she was not pleased, for example if she was left alone onboard Ódinn, if the weather was bad and she was especially loud when the cannon was used.
